Good data! As I noted on my blog, it would be awesome for someone to put the numbers together on the Asian MMO market from both a size a dollars perspective!

Now, Maple Story is internationally popular game!
At least in Korea, general population of the game is dense at children in their elementary school years. One of enduring fun-factors in the game is the reputation competition among these younger players.

Hi,
It is my second time report from Thailand. Maple Story just had 1st year
anniversary on Novvember, 19th 2006.
I am surprised that the registration queue for Maple Birthdy very very long. And, I read from Thailand Maple Story BBS that this took long time from morning till 19.00 pm. It is proved How popular it is.
However, I am Magician at level 29 and today I will up level to 30 to be
Cleric. Thanks Maple Story. I love this game.
I have question Who is programmer
to develop this game. It should have
a book about the history of Maple Story.
I would like to study how this game
developed as What where why when and How.

At first, let me show you my personal short knowledge on the game.
Maple Story started it service at Apr. 29th of Y2003. It was developed by very small company named, Widget that is now integrated into Nexon. The mastermind behind the game has very unique taste about online game. Before he started his own company, Widget, he developed one of early popular casual game in Korea, Quiz Quiz. It is just plain Quiz show, but users was very happy to play the same old one by Internet. When Maple Story launched, many analyst looked down on it for its anachronism. Few did read the potential that friendly 2D graphic-based game environment has such a great charming to gaming population.
Actually, there are little to say about the inner and behind story about the game, because Korean gaming developing society is not familiar with such a record on its own history.

Hi,

BBS. However, I would like to share my study to more places.
If you have other topics about this game please tell me .Where?
or if you have other website to
guide me please tell me, too.

I recently read somewhere (but now forget where) that Maple Story had reported 50M subscribers globally - these numbers come up just over 30M (still HUGE!). Is that 50M accumulated subscribers (who may not be active), or just a bogus ‘marketing number’? Any idea? Thanks
December 12th, 2006 at 12:05 am
It’s not marketing number definitely. As you well know, it is free-to-enter game. So, subscription number do not mean high revenue directly.
Still, the number itself is huge, and the revenue from micro-payment business model is still more surprising than the number.
December 13th, 2006 at 11:19 am
Hi,
I think the huge number is possible because it is free online game. In my opinion, the game quality is superb.
However, the revenue come from the refill card in thailand named A-CASH. I enjoy to use this card sometime with the option to where
many of masks as bear, duck ,etc.
It helps to make more surprising in this game when nobody will have exactly same outfits.
In Thailand, all options will expire in 30 days after that you have to buy A-CARD to recover the previous again. It is o.k.

This is really a very good game. I have an 81 Axe Sader in Global. I’m in my mid 30s yet I find this game very addicting. I’ve been playing video games since my elementary school days and I think Maple Story ranks among the best.
I want to play KMS, too, and I have a level 45 fighter. I just play it in an Internet Cafe but I want to play it at home, too. But after downloading the game client and installing it, I get an error message. What should I do?
December 30th, 2006 at 11:30 am
Actually, the game started with Wizet company, which was a project off Nexon. They then merged a few months ago…
Great game though

@ VoltesV
Well, I got that error message too and I tried everything until I realized that the only way is to recover my computer through System Recovery or Destruction Recovery if System Recovery does not work. After I tried it, I’m happy to say it works.
If you tried recovery if you have one on your computer and it did not work, then it might be your outdated motherboard.

maple story sux!especially mapleSEA.wad a cheap,2-D game.it looks like mario.so many hackers too.
August 6th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Whether the game roxs or suxs totally depends on the person itself. But MapleStory is considered quite well-done since it is just a 2D game, which is uncomparable to 3D game. And because it is a 2D game, of course it requires less maintainence and etc, thus it is cheap and free of charge. Cant expect too much~ Anw, compared to Mario, MapleStory is really different from it.
Cant stand those hackers and the lag lah…

Maplestory is an average game, gets repetitive. one of the worst ‘grind’ games!
September 8th, 2007 at 11:59 pm
Sorry If I said a lot. But, I read from some other forums the other day that GlobalMS is the most hacker-infested version currently right now… Maple SEA is Second, JapanMS is 3rd, EuropeMS is 4th but hacking level in Europe is rising (It may surpass JapanMS by November 2007. Most Common Reason: Only GlobalMS, Maple SEA, JapanMS and EuropeMS are the only MapleStory versions that does not require some sort of an citizenship/identification number. Most preferably Age Requirement (normally 13+). KoreaMS age requirement is 5+ and under 80. Sucks, eh?
PS: I play both KoreaMS and GlobalMS. Plus I used to be one of the 100,000 players in KoreaMS Tester Version (Tespia).
September 9th, 2007 at 12:07 am
Sorry for what I said about the Citizenship/Identification Number if you don’t get it. I actually mean that in KoreaMS, ChinaMS, TaiwanMS, ThailandMS, and MapleSEA, you need a citizenship/identification number to register (KoreaMS asks for real name, social security number, adress of residence, home phone number, etc. to register properly) (although in MapleSEA, you can make up a identification number).

i played maple story (Global) about a year and a half ago, and i really liked it.
i loved it. it was ALMOST perfect (ALMOST, not because of the game, but because of personal technical reasons).
except that i grew tired of the tedious grinding i had because of my slow connection (w/c results to frustration).
i guess i need to reconsider playing maple story again, now that i have changed to a better ISP (a whole lot better, i might say). hehe!
chow!
